As a child, at his grandmother’s at the foot of the Auvergne, Jean Laporte found a vocation as a botanist. It is the one he follows when he opens shop in 1976, at a time when the phrase “niche perfumery” did not yet exist — the house is today counted among the first of its kind. In 1978, Mûre et Musc sets a red fruit at the heart of a white musk; the house presents it as a first in the trade. The name came from its customers, who called him the craftsman of fragrance. Fifty years on, it still holds shop on rue Saint-Honoré.
