How we handle reviews

This page explains where the reviews shown on planetebeauty.com come from, how they are checked, ranked, changed and kept, and why we refuse some of them. It describes how the site actually works on the date shown at the bottom of the page.

Where reviews come from

Every review in the "Customer reviews" list of a fragrance page shows its origin. There are four.

  • Review left on the site: written by a customer from the fragrance page. The author enters their order number and the e-mail address of the order. Our server checks that the order exists, that it is not cancelled, that it carries this e-mail address and that it contains this fragrance; when this check succeeds, the review carries the "Verified purchase" label. PlanèteBeauty then reads the review before it is published: the decision is taken by the manager or, on his instructions, by our management assistant.
  • Google review: posted by its author on PlanèteBeauty's Google listing, then reproduced on the site when its text quotes the number of one of our orders. We match this number to an order of the site, but we do not check that the author of the review is the customer of that order: these reviews therefore do not carry the "Verified purchase" label. They are not read before being reproduced, and their reproduction does not depend on the rating. A Google review is reproduced on the page of each fragrance of the order it quotes, in the "Customer reviews" list (except free gifts included with the order); it then counts in the average rating and in the number of reviews of that page, even though it is as much about our shop and our service as about the fragrance itself. It may also appear in the "shop reviews (Google)" block.
  • Review imported from our former module: reviews collected by the Judge.me application, imported into our own module on 24 March 2026. Our module does not hold the order check for these reviews: they do not carry the "Verified purchase" label. A few reviews from this former module are not displayed at present, pending review.
  • Review from the Shop app: reviews left by customers from Shopify's Shop app. They do not carry the "Verified purchase" label.

The author's name is shown shortened (first name and initial of the surname) on fragrance pages and in the home page carousel. An e-mail address is never displayed.

Review dates

The date shown on a fragrance page is the date of the review: the date it was submitted for a review left on the site, the date recorded in the former module for an imported review. For a Google review, the date shown on the page, preceded by "Added on", is the date on which we reproduced it on the site, not the date it was written on Google, which we do not keep.

In the home page carousel the date is relative ("a month ago"). Depending on the review, it is the date it was posted on Google or the date on which we reproduced it on the site; the carousel does not distinguish between them.

We do not collect the date of the experience (purchase or use of the fragrance): it is not available, in particular for imported reviews.

How reviews are checked, contacting the author

The check depends on the origin of the review, as described above: order verification then a read-through before publication for a review left on the site; matching of the order number, without a read-through, for a Google review; no order check for an imported review or a Shop app review.

We may contact the author of a review left on the site, at the e-mail address of their order, for example to give them the reason for a refusal. We do not write to the authors of Google reviews, of the former module or of the Shop app.

Publication, time limit and display period

A review left on the site is published or refused within 7 days of being submitted.

A review stops being displayed five years after its date: it is then removed from display (fragrance page lists, carousel, Google block, product-review feed sent to Google), without being deleted from our files.

Ranking and ratings

On each page, the "Customer reviews" list ranks reviews from most recent to oldest, according to the date shown. Rating and origin play no part in this ranking. The average rating and the number of reviews in the list count all the published reviews of the page, Google reviews included.

The carousel on the home page is a selection. It only shows Google reviews rated 4 and 5 stars whose text is at least 25 characters long, with a single review per author first name and per identical text opening, most recent first, fourteen at most. The rating and the number of reviews shown above the carousel are a reading of our Google listing, not a calculation on this selection; the date of that reading is shown below the carousel.

Reviews we refuse

We refuse to publish a review, or remove it from display, for one of the following reasons:

  • Off topic (not about the fragrance)
  • Personal data
  • Insulting language
  • Duplicate
  • Not a buyer
  • Advertising
  • Serious accusation without supporting evidence
  • Removed at the author's request

A review left on the site is also refused at submission if it is shorter than 10 characters or if the name entered is too short. A low rating is never, on its own, a reason for refusal.

When we refuse a review left on the site, we write to its author, at the e-mail address they gave, to give them the reason and the date of submission. If they think it is a mistake, they can reply to that message.

Changing or removing your review

Once sent, a review left on the site cannot be changed by its author from the site. To have it removed, write to us at info@planetebeauty.com, stating the fragrance and the date of submission. A Google review is changed or deleted directly on Google.

Since 10 October 2026 we no longer rewrite the text of a review. A review can only be removed from display, at its author's request or for one of the reasons above; its former text is kept internally.

For Google reviews, we strip from the reproduced text what is not the author's or need not be published: the translation notices added by Google, the order number and formatting characters. When Google supplies a review together with its translation, the fragrance page shows, depending on the format received, either the translation alone or the original text followed by its translation. In the carousel, a review is shown in its original language when that is the language of the page; otherwise it is shown in the translation supplied by Google or, failing that, in a machine translation, and a review that cannot be translated is not shown.

Consideration given in exchange for a review

  • Google review: a €5 credit is offered for a Google review quoting your order number (one per order), whatever the rating, when the order is linked to a customer account. For an order paid in a currency other than the euro, the credit is issued in the order's currency, for the equivalent of €5 at the latest European Central Bank reference rate (failing that, at the rate applied to the order), rounded up to the next whole unit. A Google review is only reproduced on a fragrance page after this credit has been issued: every Google review shown on fragrance pages has therefore given rise to this consideration.
  • Review left on a product page: we may, at our discretion, issue a €5 credit, in euros, valid for 30 days.

The full conditions are in article 9 of our Terms of Sale. No other consideration is given for a review.

Reporting by brands

A brand or person responsible for a fragrance that is the subject of a review can report to us, free of charge, a doubt about the authenticity of that review, provided the report states its grounds, by writing to info@planetebeauty.com with the name of the fragrance, the date and the author of the review concerned, the reason for the doubt and their contact details. If the review falls under a reason for refusal, we remove it from display.
